Either of two medicinal plants native to North America:
  • (also black cohosh) A plant of the buttercup family, with small white flowers (Cimicifuga racemosa, family Ranunculaceae). (also blue cohosh) A plant of the barberry family (Caulophyllum thalictroides, family Berberidaceae).
