(551–479 bc), Chinese philosopher; Latinized name of Kongfuze ( K’ung Fu-tzu) ‘Kong the master’. His ideas about the importance of practical moral values, collected by his disciples in the Analects, formed the basis of the philosophy of Confucianism.
