Connolly, Maureen

Pronunciation: /ˈkɒnəli/
(1934–69), American tennis player; known as Little Mo; full name Maureen Catherine Connolly. She was 16 when she first won the US singles title and 17 when she took the Wimbledon title. In 1953 she became the first woman to win the grand slam before being forced to retire in 1954 after a riding accident.
