Eijkman, Christiaan

Pronunciation: /ˈeɪkmən/
(1858–1930), Dutch physician. Eijkman’s work resulted in a simple cure for the disease beriberi and led to the discovery of the vitamin thiamine. Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine (1929).
