An elephant-headed deity, son of Shiva and Parvati. He is usually depicted coloured red, with a pot belly and one broken tusk, riding a rat. Also called Ganapati.

Origin

From Sanskrit Gaṇeśa 'lord of the ganas' (Shiva's attendants).
