(Circa 1478–1510), Italian painter; also called Giorgio Barbarelli or Giorgio da Castelfranco. An influential figure in Renaissance art, he introduced the small easel picture in oils intended for private collectors. Notable works: The Tempest (circa 1505) and Sleeping Venus (circa 1510).
