Goddard, Robert Hutchings

Pronunciation: /ˈɡɒdɑːd/
(1882–1945), American physicist. He carried out pioneering work in rocketry, and designed and built the first successful liquid-fuelled rocket. NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center is named after him.
