Highsmith, Patricia

Pronunciation: /ˈhʌɪsmɪθ/
(1921–95), American writer of detective fiction; born Patricia Plangman. Her novels are noted for their black humour, particularly those featuring Tom Ripley, an amoral anti-hero resident in France. Strangers on a Train (1949) was filmed by Alfred Hitchcock in 1951.
