James, Jesse

Pronunciation: /dʒeɪmz/
(1847–82), American outlaw; full name Jesse Woodson James. He joined with his brother Frank (1843–1915) and others to form a notorious band of outlaws which specialized in bank and train robberies and inspired many westerns.
