Landau, Lev

(1908–68), Soviet theoretical physicist, born in Russia; full name Lev Davidovich Landau. Active in many fields, Landau was awarded the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1962 for his work on the superfluidity and thermal conductivity of liquid helium.
