An expression adopted by one language from another in a more or less literally translated form. Also called calque.
- The transfer of the name between languages assumes contact between Spanish and other speakers and a loan translation.
- There are many loan translations from local languages: ‘krai dai,’ a wake or funeral celebration; ‘tai han,’ meanness.
