Marlowe, Christopher

(1564–93), English playwright and poet. As a playwright he brought a new strength and vitality to blank verse; his work influenced Shakespeare’s early historical plays. Notable plays: Doctor Faustus (circa 1590) and The Jew of Malta (1592).
