Melanchthon, Philipp

Pronunciation: /məˈlaŋkθɒn/
(1497–1560), German Protestant reformer; born Philipp Schwarzerd. He succeeded Luther as leader of the Reformation movement in Germany in 1521 and drew up the Augsburg Confession (1530).
