Melville, Herman

Pronunciation: /ˈmɛlvɪl/
(1819–91), American novelist and short-story writer. His experiences on a whaling ship formed the basis of several novels, notably Moby Dick (1851). Other notable works: Billy Budd (first published in 1924).
