Definition of memantine in English:
A prescription drug for the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease. It protects the brain’s nerve cells against glutamate, which is released in excess by Alzheimer’s-damaged brain cells. Also called Namenda ( trademark).
- The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved memantine for treatment of moderate to severe Alzheimer's disease, and it may be used in combination with a cholinesterase inhibitor.
