A large woodland toadstool with a concave cap, the flesh of which exudes a white or coloured milky fluid when cut.
- Genus Lactarius, family Russulaceae, class Hymenomycetes: several species, including the edible saffron milk cap (L. deliciosus)
- Thus we still have ‘orange agaric’ as a common name for both the oronge, Amanita caesarea, and the saffron milk cap, Lactarius deliciosus; and ‘fly agaric’ as the name for Amanita muscaria, a harmful species.
