Mommsen, Theodor

Pronunciation: /ˈmɒmz(ə)n/
(1817–1903), German historian. He is noted for his three-volume History of Rome (1854-6; 1885) and his treatises on Roman constitutional law (1871–88). Nobel Prize for Literature (1902).
