An administrative division of modern Greece (formerly a province, now a smaller unit).
- These nomarchies were permanently named after the nomarchs who held office there in the early days of Ptolemaic rule "Nico's nomarchy," "Philip's nomarchy," and so on.
- According to the Hellenic Ministry of Public Order, all Greek passports issued by the local Greek Nomarchies prior to December 31, 2005 will be invalid for travel from January 1, 2007.
Mid 17th century: from Greek nomarkhia, from nomos 'nome' + arkhē 'government'.
