Definition of nonpast in English:
A tense not expressing a past action or state.
- Intransitive, transitive, causative forms, past and non-past tenses (there was no future tense in Old Tamil), participal and verbal nouns, adjectival participles and the infinitive are found in the language of the inscriptions.
- At the moment, tread is still the only Standard English non-past form of this verb; but that could change - trod might replace it completely in the not too distant future.
