Oxford English Dictionary

The largest dictionary of the English language, edited in Oxford and originally issued in instalments between 1884 and 1928.

Based on historical principles, the OED was originally issued in instalments and edited by Sir James Murray from its inception in 1879 until his death in 1915. A twenty-volume second edition appeared in 1989, and the dictionary has been published online since 2000, with regular updates
