A plant of the gourd family, especially a trailing or climbing annual that has become naturalized in inland Australia.
  • Several species in the family Cucurbitaceae, in particular Cucumis myriocarpus, which has bristly melon-like fruits and is native to Africa
Example sentences
  • Paddymelons, which look like small round watermelons, are often found beside outback roads.
  • Paddy melon or bitter apple [Cucumis myriocarpus Naudin] is also a summer annual, but differs from dudaim melon by having deeply lobed leaves and round fruits 2-3 cm wide covered with weak prickles.
