A small wild cat that has a long orange-grey coat with black-and-white head markings, occurring in the mountains of central Asia. Also called manul.
- Felis manul, family Felidae.
- Pallas' cat inhabits the Asian steppes up to heights of 4000 m (13,000 ft).
- The coat of the Pallas's cat is longer than that of any other species of cat, particularly that on the undersides which is almost white, and varies in color.
Mid 19th century: named after Peter S. Pallas (1741–1811), German naturalist.
