A hunting dog of a short-coated tan-coloured breed with large, pointed ears.
- Pharaoh Hounds are thought to be a very old breed of dog, with minimal changes over the years. They are similar in appearance to the dogs associated with drawings on ancient Egyptian structures.
- A Pharaoh Hound is excellent as a watchdog. They are very inquisitive and inspect the area where they walk every day in minute detail.
1960s: so named because the breed is said to have been first introduced to Gozo and Malta by Phoenician sailors.
