Building material of stiff clay or earth, forced between boards which are removed as it hardens.
- These, and other basic materials such as adobe or pisé (rammed earth), persisted in vernacular building into the early twentieth century, when buildings in the Victorian Mallee were still being built from tree roots.
- Employing workers from the nearby village, Damoussi used only traditional techniques: the walls are pisé and the tatoui ceilings are constructed with beams of silver birch laid over bamboo.
Late 18th century: French, literally 'pounded', past participle of piser.
