Potter, Dennis

Pronunciation: /ˈpɒtə/
(1935–94), English television playwright; full name Dennis Christopher George Potter. His work used popular songs to contrast the humdrum or painful realities of everyday life with the imagination’s capacity for hope and self-delusion. Notable works: Brimstone and Treacle (play, 1976) and the series Pennies from Heaven (1978) and The Singing Detective (1986).
