Sheridan, Richard Brinsley

Pronunciation: /ˈʃɛrɪd(ə)n/
(1751–1816), Irish playwright and Whig politician. His plays are comedies of manners; they include The Rivals (1775) and The School for Scandal (1777). In 1780 he entered Parliament, becoming a celebrated orator and holding senior government posts.
