(1863–1938), Russian theatre director and actor; born Konstantin Sergeevich Alekseev; full name Konstantin Sergeevich Stanislavsky. Stanislavsky trained his actors to take a psychological approach and use latent powers of self-expression when taking on roles; his theory and technique were later developed into method acting.
