A person who smokes only in the company of another smoker.
- I started when I was eighteen because people who smoked at the restaurant I worked at got to take more, and longer, breaks than those who didn't puff (owners and managers were all sympathetic smokers).
- She is what one might call a sympathetic smoker. You light up, she lights up.
