1.2 Tarquinius Superbus, reigned circa 534-circa 510 bc; full name Lucius Tarquinius Superbus; known as Tarquin the Proud. According to tradition he was the son or grandson of Tarquinius Priscus. Noted for his cruelty, he was expelled from the city and the Republic was founded. He repeatedly, but unsuccessfully, attacked Rome, assisted by Lars Porsenna.
