(1840–93), Russian composer; full name Pyotr Ilich Tchaikovsky. Notable works include the ballets Swan Lake (1877) and The Nutcracker (1892), the First Piano Concerto (1875), the opera Eugene Onegin (1879), the overture 1812 (1880), and his sixth symphony, the ‘Pathétique’ (1893).
