Thoreau, Henry David

Pronunciation: /ˈθɔːrəʊ/
(1817–62), American essayist and poet, and a key figure in Transcendentalism. He is best known for his book Walden, or Life in the Woods (1854), an account of a two-year experiment in self-sufficiency.
