Tippett, Sir Michael

Pronunciation: /ˈtɪpɪt/
(1905–98), English composer; full name Sir Michael Kemp Tippett. He established his reputation with the oratorio A Child of Our Time (1941), which drew on jazz, madrigals, and spirituals besides classical sources. Other works include five operas, four symphonies, and several song cycles.
