(1932–2009), American novelist, poet, and short-story writer; full name John Hoyer Updike. He is noted for his quartet of novels Rabbit, Run (1960), Rabbit Redux (1971), Rabbit is Rich (Pulitzer Prize, 1981), and Rabbit at Rest (Pulitzer Prize, 1990).
