Definition of veinstone in English:
Another term for gangue.
- The veinstone is pure quartz containing water in microscopical cavities, as in the quartz crystals of granite, but not combined as in the hydrous siliceous sinter deposited from hot springs.
- Some of this is disseminated within the veinstone, but there is evidence from a number of lodes that, after the initial tourmaline deposition, a residual quartz/cassiterite phase was produced.
