- The term is also used when something is only swollen on one side, giving the ventricose object a profile like a person with a beer-belly.
2 Botany Distended, inflated.
- In most cases, even slender specimens are generally shorter and more ventricose than typical fulica.
- In B. flabellifer the stem is not ventricose and the leaves have fewer, less rigid leaflets, forming a deeply grooved surface.
