Whittle, Sir Frank

Pronunciation: /ˈwɪt(ə)l/
(1907–96), English aeronautical engineer, test pilot, and inventor of the jet aircraft engine. He took out the first patent for a turbojet engine in 1930, and in 1941 the first flight using his jet engine was made.
