The name of a family of Italian painters comprising the brothers Annibale ( 1560–1609) and Agostino ( 1557–1602) and their cousin Ludovico ( 1555–1619). Together they established a teaching academy at Bologna, while Annibale became famed for his frescoes on the ceiling of the Farnese Gallery in Rome and for his invention of the caricature.
