(1906–82), US baseball player; born Leroy Robert Paige. A pitcher for the Negro leagues 1924–47 and the major leagues, he threw 55 career no-hitters. He pitched for the Cleveland Indians 1948–49, the St. Louis Browns 1951–53, and the Kansas City Athletics 1965. Baseball Hall of Fame (1971)
