( 1939–2013), Irish poet; born in Northern Ireland; full name Seamus Justin Heaney. He became an Irish citizen in 1972. Notable works: North (1975) and The Haw Lantern (1987). In 1999 he published an acclaimed new translation of Beowulf. Nobel Prize for Literature (1995).
