Definition of Lyman series in English:
A series of lines in the ultraviolet spectrum of atomic hydrogen, between 122 and 91 nanometers.
- When the electron returns all the way to the innermost orbital the photon emitted has more energy and forms a line in the Lyman series found in the higher energy, ultraviolet portion of the spectrum.
Early 20th century: named after Theodore Lyman (1874–1954), American physicist.
