( 1898–1978), Israeli stateswoman, born in Ukraine; prime minister 1969–74; born Goldie Mabovich. She immigrated to the US in 1907 and to Palestine in 1921. Following Israel’s independence, she served in cabinet posts from 1949 to 1966 before being elected prime minister.
