A city in southern Bosnia and Herzegovina, southwest of Sarajevo, the chief town of Herzegovina; population 111,116 (2008). Its chief landmark, an old Turkish bridge across the Neretva River, was destroyed during the siege of the city by Croat forces in 1993; its rebuilding was completed in 2004. The majority of Mostar’s inhabitants are Muslim.
