( 1941-), US baseball player and manager; full name Peter Edward Rose; nickname Charlie Hustle. He played for the Cincinnati Reds 1963–78, the Philadelphia Phillies 1979–83, the Montreal Expos 1984, and the Reds again 1984–86. From 1984 until 1988, he also managed the Reds. He holds the major league record for hits with 4,256. In 1989, amid allegations of betting on baseball games, he was suspended permanently from baseball.
