( 1540–1609), French scholar, son of Julius Caesar Scaliger. His De Emendatione Temporum (1583) gave a more scientific foundation to the understanding of ancient chronology by comparing and revising the computations of time made by different civilizations, including those of the Babylonians and Egyptians.
