( 1910–97), Roman Catholic nun and missionary, born of Albanian parentage in what is now Macedonia; born Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu. She became an Indian citizen in 1948. She founded the Order of Missionaries of Charity, noted for its work among the poor in Kolkata (Calcutta). Nobel Peace Prize (1979).
