Arendt, Hannah

Pronunciation: /ˈärənt/
(1906–75), US philosopher and political theorist; born in Germany. A student of Martin Heidegger, she established her reputation as a political thinker with one of the first works to propose that Nazism and Stalinism had common roots. Notable works: The Origins of Totalitarianism (1951), Eichmann in Jerusalem (1963), and On Violence (1970).
