( 106–43 bc), Roman statesman, orator, and writer; full name Marcus Tullius Cicero. He established a model for Latin prose. A supporter of Pompey against Julius Caesar, he attacked Mark Antony in the Philippics (43 bc). For this offense, Mark Antony had him put to death.
