Cunard, Sir Samuel

Pronunciation: /k(y)o͞oˈnärd/
(1787–1865), British shipowner; born in Canada. He founded the steamship company that still bears his name with the aid of a contract that began in 1840 to carry the mail between Britain and Canada.
