Durkheim, Émile

Pronunciation: /ˈdərkˌhīm/
(1858–1917), French sociologist; one of the founders of modern sociology. In 1913, he became the first professor of sociology at the Sorbonne. Notable works: The Division of Labor in Society (1893) and Suicide (1897).
