Eijkman, Christiaan

Pronunciation: /ˈīkmən/
(1858–1930), Dutch physician. His work resulted in a simple cure for beriberi and led to the discovery of the vitamin thiamine. Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine (1929), shared with Frederick G. Hopkins.
